As of May 2008, more than 1.5 million active-duty and reserve military personnel had deployed to combat operations in support of Operations Iraqi & Enduring Freedom. Of those, 751,273 have either separated from the active component or become eligible for VA health care as reservists. Only 263,909 have utilized the VA health care system.
